CUET UG 2026 Technical Glitch Sparks Political Row; NTA Blames TCS for Exam Delay at Several Centres

CUET UG 2026 Technical Glitch Sparks Political Row; NTA Blames TCS for Exam Delay at Several Centres

CUET UG 2026 Exam Delayed Due to Technical Glitch

The Common University Entrance Test Undergraduate (CUET UG) 2026 witnessed disruptions at several examination centres across India on May 30 after a technical glitch reportedly delayed the commencement of the examination.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) later issued an official clarification stating that its technology partner, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), had reported a technical issue that affected the start of the examination at some centres. The agency confirmed that the problem had been resolved and examinations were subsequently conducted with full compensatory time to ensure that no candidate was disadvantaged.

The delay reportedly affected both students and parents, leading to confusion at several examination centres. Videos and photographs shared on social media showed candidates waiting outside centres while authorities worked to resolve the issue.

NTA expressed regret over the inconvenience caused and assured candidates that fairness would be maintained throughout the examination process.

NTA Revises CUET UG 2026 Afternoon Session Timing

Following the disruption in the morning session, the National Testing Agency revised the schedule for the afternoon examination shift.

Revised Afternoon Session Schedule

  • Reporting and Entry Time: From 2:30 PM
  • Examination Start Time: 4:00 PM
  • Earlier Scheduled Exam Time: 3:00 PM

Candidates were informed about the revised schedule through official notices and announcements at examination centres.

The agency clarified that all affected students would receive the complete duration of the examination despite the delay in commencement.

Morning session candidates were also granted their full examination duration and were allowed to leave only after completing the prescribed test time.

Political Reactions Over Examination Management

The incident triggered strong political reactions, with opposition leaders questioning the management of national-level examinations in the country.

Aam Aadmi Party leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi criticized the handling of the examination and linked the incident to previous controversies involving major examinations.

She alleged that repeated issues in examinations were causing uncertainty among students and called for accountability regarding the conduct of national entrance tests.

Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi also criticized the situation, referring to controversies involving NEET, CBSE, SSC and CUET examinations.

Several opposition leaders argued that repeated disruptions in large-scale examinations were affecting the future of lakhs of students across the country.

CUET UG 2026 Delay Adds to Recent Exam Controversies

The latest issue comes at a time when several national-level examinations have remained under public scrutiny.

The NEET UG 2026 examination was cancelled following allegations of paper leak and irregularities, leading to the announcement of a re-examination scheduled for June 21, 2026.

Similarly, concerns were raised regarding SSC examinations after reports of technical disruptions, server issues and examination centre management problems.

These developments have intensified discussions about examination infrastructure, technology management and the conduct of large-scale entrance examinations in India.

NTA Clarification on CUET UG 2026 Delay

In its official statement, the National Testing Agency stated that the technical issue originated from the systems of its technology partner TCS.

According to NTA, the issue was identified and resolved promptly, after which the examination process resumed smoothly.

The agency further stated that:

  • Full compensatory time was provided to all affected candidates.
  • No student would lose examination time due to the delay.
  • Revised timings were implemented to accommodate affected shifts.
  • Candidates could contact NTA through the official helpline for assistance.

What is CUET UG?

The Common University Entrance Test (CUET UG) was introduced in 2022 as a standardized national-level entrance examination for undergraduate admissions.

The examination serves as a common platform for admissions into Central Universities, State Universities, Deemed Universities and participating private institutions across India.

Aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, CUET UG evaluates students on language proficiency, domain-specific subjects and general aptitude, replacing multiple university-specific entrance examinations.

Due to the large number of applicants and diverse subject combinations, the examination is conducted in multiple shifts across several days.
