BPSC APO 2026 Exam Pattern & Detailed Syllabus for Preliminary and Main Examination

Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has released the detailed exam pattern and syllabus for the Assistant Prosecution Officer (APO) Examination 2026. Candidates preparing for the 300 APO posts must carefully understand the three-stage selection process — Preliminary Exam, Main Exam, and Interview.

Selection Process

The APO recruitment examination will be conducted in three stages:

  1. Preliminary Examination
  2. Main Examination
  3. Interview (100 Marks)

Only candidates qualifying in each stage will be eligible to proceed to the next phase.

Preliminary Examination Pattern

The Preliminary Exam will consist of two objective-type papers:

Paper 1 General Studies 100
Paper 2 Law 150

  • Questions will be objective (MCQ type)
  • Papers will be bilingual (Hindi & English)
  • Each paper duration: 2 Hours
  • 100 questions per paper
  • Marks obtained in Prelims will not be added to final merit

Minimum Qualifying Marks (Prelims)

  • General Category: 40%
  • BC: 36.5%
  • EBC: 34%
  • SC/ST/Women/Divyang: 32%

Candidates up to 10 times the total vacancies will be shortlisted for the Main Examination.

  • Indian Polity
  • Geography

Paper 2 – Law

  • Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023
  • Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023
  • Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023
  • Civil Procedure Code, 1908
  • Basic Knowledge of Indian Constitution

Main Examination Pattern

The Main Examination will consist of eight descriptive papers:

Important Points:

  • Questions will be descriptive in nature
  • Each paper duration: 3 Hours
  • Hindi & English language papers are qualifying (minimum 30 marks required)
  • Marks obtained in Main Exam + Interview will determine final merit

  • Information Technology Act, 2000 (Chapter XI)
  • Bihar Prohibition & Excise Act, 2016 (Selected Chapters)

  • Bihar Police Act, 2007
  • Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988
  • SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989
  • POCSO Act, 2012

The level of questions from core law papers will be equivalent to LLB standard (Patna University level).

Interview (Viva-Voce)

  • Total Marks: 100
  • Final merit will be prepared based on Main Exam + Interview Marks
  • Attendance in interview is mandatory
