CUET UG 2026 Rescheduled Exam Conducted Smoothly Across India; Over 1.5 Lakh Candidates Registered for May 31 Test
NTA Successfully Conducts Rescheduled CUET UG 2026 Examination After Eid-Related Postponement
New Delhi, June 1, 2026: The National Testing Agency (NTA) successfully conducted the rescheduled Common University Entrance Test Undergraduate (CUET UG) 2026 on May 31 across hundreds of examination centres in India and abroad. The examination was held for candidates whose tests were postponed earlier due to the Eid-ul-Adha holiday declared in several parts of the country on May 28.
According to NTA sources, the examination was conducted smoothly in both shifts without any major disruptions, marking a significant achievement after recent challenges faced during the ongoing CUET UG 2026 examination cycle.
The successful conduct of the examination comes just a day after a technical glitch at certain centres delayed the commencement of Shift-I on May 30, prompting the agency to announce a special re-examination for affected candidates.
Examination Held at Hundreds of Centres Across India and Overseas
The rescheduled CUET UG 2026 examination was conducted in two shifts at hundreds of examination centres spread across India and selected international locations.
For Shift-I, NTA organized the examination at 334 centres for a total of 70,266 registered candidates. The examination was also conducted at one overseas centre, where two international candidates appeared for the test.
According to the agency, no Persons with Disabilities (PwD) candidates were registered for Shift-I.
Meanwhile, Shift-II was conducted at 358 examination centres for 80,872 registered candidates. This session also included three PwD candidates and was organized at two foreign examination centres where 30 overseas candidates appeared for the examination.
The large-scale operation once again demonstrated the extensive reach of the CUET UG examination system, which now serves students seeking admission to undergraduate programmes across Central, State, Deemed, and participating private universities.
Attendance Remains Strong in Rescheduled Examination
NTA sources revealed that a total of 54,882 candidates appeared in Shift-II, resulting in an attendance rate of approximately 67.9 percent.
Officials indicated that attendance remained satisfactory despite the rescheduling of examinations and the logistical challenges associated with conducting a nationwide entrance test.
Experts believe that attendance rates for postponed examinations are often slightly lower than regular sessions due to travel, scheduling conflicts, and other personal circumstances. Nevertheless, the turnout reflected the importance of CUET UG as India's premier undergraduate entrance examination.
Why Was the Examination Rescheduled?
The National Testing Agency had earlier revised the CUET UG 2026 schedule after several states announced a public holiday on May 28 in observance of Eid-ul-Adha.
To ensure that students were not inconvenienced and could appear for the examination under suitable conditions, NTA postponed the affected tests and later announced revised examination dates.
The agency subsequently informed candidates that the postponed examinations would be conducted on May 31, June 6, and June 7, 2026.
Admit cards for the May 31 examination were released in advance, while admit cards for examinations scheduled on June 6 and June 7 are expected to be released separately.
Smooth Conduct Comes After Technical Glitch on May 30
The successful completion of the rescheduled examination is particularly significant because it follows a technical issue that disrupted CUET UG 2026 Shift-I on May 30.
A technical glitch reported by NTA's technology partner, TCS iON, delayed the commencement of the examination at several centres across the country.
The issue caused anxiety among candidates and prompted intervention by examination authorities.
Following the incident, NTA directed TCS to conduct a Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and submit a detailed report regarding the technical failure.
TCS later issued an official statement acknowledging that a brief technical issue had delayed the examination by approximately two hours. The company stated that the problem was quickly identified and resolved and that the integrity of the examination remained unaffected.
NTA Announces Re-Exam for 3,765 Affected Candidates
In response to the disruption on May 30, NTA announced a special one-time re-examination for 3,765 candidates who were present at their allotted centres, completed biometric verification, but chose to leave before the examination resumed.
According to the agency, a total of 73,106 candidates had reported for the examination and completed biometric registration on May 30.
Out of these, nearly 95 percent successfully completed the examination after services were restored. However, 3,765 candidates left the centres before the examination restarted.
To ensure fairness and protect students' interests, NTA decided to provide these candidates with another opportunity through a specially scheduled re-examination.
The agency has confirmed that the fresh examination date and related details will be announced separately.
CUET UG Continues to Transform Undergraduate Admissions
Introduced in 2022, the Common University Entrance Test (CUET UG) has become the central gateway for undergraduate admissions across numerous universities in India.
The examination was launched to create a standardized admission process and reduce the burden of multiple entrance tests conducted by different institutions.
CUET UG evaluates students on language proficiency, domain-specific subjects, and general aptitude, providing universities with a common assessment framework.
The examination also aligns with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes accessibility, transparency, inclusivity, and equal opportunities in higher education admissions.
The smooth conduct of the rescheduled CUET UG 2026 examination on May 31 reflects NTA's efforts to ensure uninterrupted testing despite recent challenges. With examinations on June 6 and June 7 still pending and a separate re-test planned for 3,765 affected candidates, the agency continues to focus on maintaining fairness and efficiency throughout the admission process. As lakhs of students await their results, CUET UG 2026 remains one of the most significant milestones in India's higher education admission system.
