National-Level Legal Writing Competition Launched on Technology, Law and Society

The School of Law, Forensic Justice & Policy Studies at the Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Science (UPSIFS), Lucknow has officially announced the 1st Justice J.S. Verma National Blog Writing Competition, 2026, inviting students from across India to participate in a prestigious academic initiative focused on emerging legal challenges in the digital age.

This national competition aims to promote critical legal thinking, research aptitude, and analytical writing among students by engaging them with contemporary issues at the intersection of law, technology, and society.

About UPSIFS and Organising Institution

The Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Science, established in 2023, operates under the Ministry of Home Affairs and is affiliated with the National Forensic Sciences University. The institute follows an innovative “law with labs” model that integrates legal education with forensic science to build practical investigative and analytical skills.

The School of Law, Forensic Justice & Policy Studies, which began functioning in the academic year 2024–25, has been actively organizing academic events to strengthen legal research and advocacy skills among students.

The themes reflect pressing legal concerns such as AI liability, algorithmic bias, cybercrime trends, privacy vs surveillance debates, and the admissibility of electronic evidence in courts.

Eligibility and Participation Details

The competition is open to students from all disciplines and academic years across India, encouraging interdisciplinary participation.

  • Single or co-authorship (maximum 2 authors allowed)
  • Cross-institution collaboration permitted
  • Registration fee varies for UPSIFS and other participants

Submission Guidelines

Participants must adhere to strict academic and formatting standards:

  • Word Limit: Approximately 1500 words
  • Font: Times New Roman, Size 12
  • Spacing: 1.5 line spacing, fully justified
  • Citation Style: Bluebook 21st Edition
  • Formats: Submission in both .doc/.docx and PDF

Additionally, plagiarism must not exceed 10%, and AI-generated content is limited to 20%, ensuring originality and academic integrity.

Each criterion carries 20 marks, making a total of 100 marks.

  • Second Runner-up: ₹1000 + Certificate + Internship

Legacy of Justice J.S. Verma

The competition is named in honour of Justice Jagdish Sharan Verma, former Chief Justice of India, known for his landmark contributions to constitutional law, judicial ethics, and gender justice, including the Vishaka Guidelines and post-2013 criminal law reforms.
