Bar Council of India Prohibits Admissions in 9 Law Colleges for Academic Session 2026-27

The Bar Council of India has issued a General Public Notice announcing that several Centres of Legal Education (CLEs) have been prohibited from taking admissions in law degree courses for the academic session 2026-27 and subsequent sessions until further notice.

According to the notice, the action has been taken after serious deficiencies were reportedly found during surprise inspections conducted by a High-Level Surprise Inspection Team comprising former High Court judges and eminent legal academicians.

Why the Action Was Taken

BCI stated that:

  • Serious shortcomings were detected during inspections
  • Reports were reviewed by the High-Level Surprise Inspection Committee
  • The committee examined deficiencies related to legal education standards
  • Separate communications will also be issued to the concerned institutions

The council clarified that the decision has been taken in the interest of maintaining standards of legal education and protecting students from misleading admissions.

The Bar Council of India has clearly stated that the listed institutions:

  • Cannot admit students in any law degree course
  • Will remain prohibited until further notice
  • May face further revision or updates depending on future inspections and reports

  5. Shri Gajendra Singh Smriti Vidhi Mahavidyalaya, Bidhuna, Auraiya
