NHRC Summer Internship Programme 2026: Applications Open, ₹12,000 Stipend, Apply by April 27
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has invited applications for its prestigious Summer Internship Programme (SIP) 2026, aimed at promoting awareness and understanding of human rights among students across India. Established under the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, NHRC plays a crucial role in safeguarding and promoting human rights in the country.
The internship programme is part of NHRC’s long-standing initiative to build Human Rights literacy, aligned with its statutory mandate under Section 12(h) of the Act. Since 1998, the Commission has been organizing structured internship programmes for students from diverse academic backgrounds.
📅 Internship Duration & Overview
The NHRC Summer Internship Programme 2026 will be conducted from 1st June to 25th June 2026 for a duration of 25 days. The programme is designed to provide in-depth exposure to human rights issues through academic sessions and field-based learning.
Around 55–60 sessions will be conducted, covering a wide spectrum of human rights topics including child labour, trafficking, elderly rights, health, and education. The internship blends theoretical learning with practical exposure, making it highly valuable for students interested in public policy and law.
🎓 Eligibility Criteria
Applications are invited from:
- Law students (3-year LL.B.) who have completed 1st year and are in 2nd/3rd year
- Students of 5-year integrated law courses who have completed 3 years (Semester VI)
- PG Diploma or Master’s students in Human Rights
- PG students of Political Science, Sociology, Social Work, Criminology, Public Administration, Economics, History, Commerce, Anthropology, Mass Communication, International Relations, and related Social Sciences
Preference will be given to final-year students across disciplines.

The internship includes a comprehensive academic and practical framework:
- Classroom lectures on Human Rights
- Interaction with NHRC Chairperson and Members
- Research Project Work
- Book Review & Declamation Activities
- Film screenings on human rights issues with discussions
- Field visits to Police Stations, Jails, NGOs, Parliament, Supreme Court, and various National Commissions
This multi-dimensional structure ensures holistic learning and real-world exposure to human rights mechanisms in India.
💰 Stipend & Benefits
- Stipend: ₹12,000 for all selected interns
- Travel reimbursement (2nd class train fare) for outstation candidates
- Certificate of Participation based on performance and attendance
Additionally, top-performing interns will receive:
- ₹15,000, ₹10,000, and ₹5,000 for top 3 group research projects
- Book prizes for best book reviews and declamation winners
These incentives add both academic and financial value to the internship.
