Allahabad University Celebrates 79th Independence Day with Flag Hoisting and T-55 Tank Inauguration 🇮🇳
Prayagraj, August 15, 2025 – Allahabad University (AU) marked the 79th Independence Day with patriotic fervor on Friday, as Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sangita Srivastava hoisted the national flag at the university campus. The ceremony began with the National Anthem, followed by an impressive parade by NCC cadets.
T-55 Tank Inaugurated at Faculty of Science
After the flag hoisting, the Vice-Chancellor inaugurated the T-55 battle tank at the Faculty of Science, gifted to the university by the Indian Army. This historic tank, inducted into the Indian Army in the late 1960s, played a significant role in the 1971 Indo-Pak war and other key military operations before being preserved for training and war memorial purposes.
Message from the Vice-Chancellor: Contribution Towards Nation Building
Prof. Srivastava extended Independence Day greetings to all teachers, staff, and students, urging everyone to reflect on how they can contribute creatively to the nation’s development.
She emphasized:
- Education institutions are hubs for innovative thinking.
- Creativity and innovation are key to national progress.
- Indian culture is rooted in tolerance, respect for diversity, and values like Satyam Shivam Sundaram and Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.
- True education reflects in character and conduct.
Holistic Education and NEP 2020 Implementation
Addressing students, the Vice-Chancellor announced that National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has been fully implemented in AU from the 2025–26 academic session.
Key points:
- Only meritorious students will get admission in the fourth year of study.
- Multiple subjects can be studied in one course to enhance skills and talent.
- Students should focus on multi-disciplinary learning and language skills to become global citizens.
- Around 400 new faculty members have been appointed to strengthen academic excellence under NEP 2020.
‘One Tree in Mother’s Name’ Plantation Drive 🌱
As part of the celebrations, AU conducted a plantation drive across all campuses under the campaign ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’.
- Prof. Srivastava planted the first sapling at the Faculty of Science.
- Registrar Prof. Ashish Khare, Dean of College Development Prof. N.K. Shukla, and Dean of Science Prof. S.I. Rizvi also participated.
- Department heads and faculty members led plantation drives in their respective campuses.
